Five pro sports ownership situations to watch closely:

I can't believe its been 20 years but it has. 20 years since the death of one of the most remarkable college basketball players ever - Hank Gathers. And 20 years since the LMU Lions captured the hearts of the nation as they made their run through the NCAA Tournament after the tragic passing of their leader on and off of the court.

March 4th marks the 20th anniversary of the death of Loyola Marmount University basketball star Hank Gathers. Gathers was one of the most captivating college basketball players ever.

Gathers collapsed and died during the WCC Tournament in Los Angeles on March 4, 1990.

The braintrust of the NHL should be busy this morning coming up with ways to capitalize on the widespread appeal of hockey during the Vancouver Olympic Games. Hockey has long struggled to pull in the casual fan and even many diehards left the sport after the work stoppage last decade.

If you've never heard of Mickey Loomis, you should know who he is. He's the man largely responsible for putting all of the pieces in place for the New Orleans Saints to win their first Super Bowl championship in the franchise's history.

Terrific debut to our Sports Business Radio/Warsaw Sports Sports Marketing Center Sports Executive Speaker Series event last week. Portland Trail Blazers President Larry Miller was the guest for our debut event, which took place in the University of Oregon Portland Center building in downtown Portland. The event took place over breakfast.

I did a several TV interviews yesterday offering my thoughts on Tiger Woods from a sports business perspective as well as from a media coaching point of view since I am a media coach when I am not hosting Sports Business Radio.

I was on NBC Portland (KGW) last night on their "Sports Sunday" show to discuss the Super Bowl ads as well as to discuss the latest with the NFL and NBA Collective Bargaining Agreements and if work stoppages in both leagues loom on the horizon.

Super Bowl XLIV is coming up this Sunday in Miami. Over 100 million people are scheduled to watch the game on TV and many of those people will be hosting or attending Super Bowl parties.
